Event Details:

The Foreign Interference Conference 2026 will be held on Wednesday, June 3 from 8:00am to 4:00pm at the Stonehaven Banquet Hall. This is a law enforcement only event. Lunch, coffee and light snacks will be provided. 

Guest speakers to include: 

Laura Harth is responsible for Safeguard Defenders' advocacy and media engagements. She is Safeguard Defender's lead on transnational repression. Laura holds M.A.'s in international law, human rights and international relations. She asts as external liasion for the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) and serves on Hong Kong Watch's Advisory Board

Noura Aljizawi is a Senior Researcher at the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. Her work focuses on digital transnational repression, digital authoritarianism, and disinformation, with particular attention to their impact on marginalized communities. She is Chair of Verify-Sy, an independent fact-checking platform, and serves on the board of the Center for Victims of Torture. Her contributions to digital safety have been recognized with the University of Toronto's Excellence Through Innovation Award. 

Hamed  Esmaeilion is an Iranian-Canadian social activist and author. Esmaeilion won the Hooshang Golshiri Literary Awards for two of his books, Dr. Datis and Thyme is not Fair. Hamed Esmaeilion was the president and former spokesman of The Association of Families of Flight PS752 Victims. 

RCMP FPNS members - The presentation seeks to provide historical and current context of the inherent connectivity, within a Canadian context, between Khalistani Violent Extremism (KVE), the Government of India, and serious and organized crime. Specifically, the presentation explores how tensions between KVE actors and the Government of India have resulted in violent and variegated criminality in Canada, including transnational repression. The overarching purpose of the presentation is to provide frontline law enforcement with threat indicators that they can apply to their day-to-day work in the field. 

YRP Protective Service members whom will be covering foreign interference, transnational repression and national security as it relates to York Region.
